DES MOINES, Iowa (Nov. 13, 2012) — Strategic America has reached a ninth year of 100 percent employee participation and is donating a record amount for the company to United Way of Central Iowa.

“After raising $38,000 last year, we set a goal of $40,000 for this year’s campaign,” says John Schreurs, SA president and COO. “With the generosity of our 90 associates, we were able to exceed our goal and give a record-breaking donation of $45,000 from our agency associates. We’re proud to have company-wide support for an organization that gives and does so much for central Iowa.”

Since 2004, SA’s leaders have encouraged participation by agreeing to a friendly exchange. If the company has 100 percent participation, the leaders will perform in front of the entire agency. Here’s a sampling of what SA’s leaders have done in the name of charity:

  • Dyed their hair Smurf blue and hot pink
  • Tattooed their foreheads with the SA and United Way logos
  • Wrestled in sumo costumes
  • Received a pie in the face
  • Donned costumes and run the bases at an Iowa Cubs game

Next year, the five principals of the firm––Mike Schreurs, John Schreurs, Lore McManus Solo, Jim Stafford and Nathan Johnson––will participate in a nontraditional triathlon.

“The goofy activities are a fun way for us to acknowledge and appreciate SA’s generous associates,” John Schreurs says.

The 2012 United Way of Central Iowa campaign seeks to raise a record $26.5 million to improve community conditions in education, income and health. In 2011, United Way invested a record $23.5 million to advance these priorities.
