Leaders lay foundation for future, centered on SA associates

Strategic America (SA), an integrated marketing agency with headquarters in West Des Moines, Iowa, has changed ownership and is now employee-owned.

“At SA one of our core values is ‘put people first,” said John Schreurs, president/CEO of Strategic America.  “This move allows us to do just that and lays the foundation of SA’s future, with our associates and clients at the center of decision-making. Employee ownership offers the ability to remain independent, recognize and reward associates, thoughtfully transition ownership and strengthen the SA foundation—centered on our people,” Schreurs said.

The move to make SA employee-owned, or officially part of an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), makes employees owners of the company at no cost, with equity in the company and retirement benefits, enabling employees to share in the company’s success.

“After 41 years in business, this is a real milestone for Strategic America,” said chairman and chief strategist Mike Schreurs. “We know this move offers tangible benefits to our employees and our clients. Employee ownership builds engagement, supports longevity, and builds upon our culture of teamwork and commitment to ‘find a better wayalways’ for our clients. We are excited to see us all make SA even stronger,” Schreurs said.

The decision was shared with SA associates at a special event the evening of Oct. 7 and the ESOP is effective Aug. 1, 2021. Mike and John Schreurs will remain active in agency leadership and on the board, while retaining a percentage of SA as an ongoing investment in the agency’s continued success.
