Strategic America Wins PRSA Community Champion Award
WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (May 5, 2025) – Strategic America (SA), an employee-owned, integrated marketing and public relations firm based in West Des Moines, Iowa, won Central Iowa Public Relations Society of America’s (PRSA) Community Champion 2024 Award of Merit for promotion of STEM education in Iowa. The award, given on April 24, 2025, recognizes the accomplishments achieved through SA’s partnership with the Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council at the Iowa Department of Education.
To tell the story of Iowa STEM and the impact it has in our schools and communities, Strategic America developed a multi-faceted public awareness campaign. The campaign leverages many opportunities to raise awareness in Iowa—including statewide leadership and support from schools, communities and industry partners. Since first being selected as the agency for the Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council in 2012, SA has more than doubled unaided awareness of STEM in Iowa — from only 26% before the campaign began to 75% today, according to research conducted by university teams in Iowa.
SA’s Senior Communication Strategist and STEM Lead Lara Plathe said she was honored by the PRSA award, touching on SA’s longstanding partnership with the Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council at the Iowa Department of Education to help educate Iowans on the importance of STEM education and the impact their programs have in our communities and throughout the state,” said Plathe.
