SA Softball Recap – Game 5!

Dane playing softball!
Dane playing softball!

Just like that patch of “dry skin” that no prescription can get rid of, SA softball is back! It was a chilly night at the ball park and your Strategic Americans were on fire on the field. Well, it was more of a burning sensation than actual fire, but you know what I mean. Crack open the Icy Hot and let’s get recapping!

Players in attendance!
Jessica, Katie, Kelly, Antwon, Maria, Greg, Dane, Chris, Lori and Heath

Fans and Super-Fans!

Let’s Break This Down.
• Things got off to a great start with two runs scored in the first inning. Let’s just bask in that statement for a second. Ahh, that feels good. The rest of the game was a little less bask-worthy.
• Greg was a fielding maniac as the game got started and Dane had a pretty incredible catch during the bottom of the first inning too. Even the umpire was impressed. It would become apparent as the evening progressed that the umpire is probably also impressed by 9 volt batteries and novelty ice cube trays, but it was still a great catch.
• I was up to bat three times and got on base as many times as someone who was at home napping. I haven’t been that appalled since I was 11 and a sales clerk assumed I was a girl shopping for a bra.
• Lori Strum came roaring off the disabled list with some great right-fielding and a solid base hit. Be sure to make her your main target on this High Five Friday.

Final Summary
Score: SA 4, Other Team 14

Despite the score, we actually didn’t play a half bad game. Our opponents objected to our having a female pitcher and catcher so Katie moved from pitcher to first base and Dane stepped in to pitch. It wasn’t part of the original plan, but like we do here at SA, we adjusted and worked it out. That makes more sense if you ignore the final score.

And finally, this week’s edition of Two Things I Overheard At The Game
“I’ll give you anything, even one of my sons. So, which one do you want? Biff, Doug, Skippy? No, don’t take Skippy, he’s got asthma.”
“It’s not something you can just run away from, like a hotel bill or a crying baby.”

Next week’s game is at 8:00pm. See you there!
