App Happy

App Happy

For this edition of “App Happy,” I scoured the web and quizzed my cube mates to bring you the latest and greatest in the app world. You know, those apps that are so useful you don’t know how you lived without them or so addicting you get itchy just setting your phone down to have a meal with some friends. From practical to pure fun, here is what I found:

  1. Countdown+ – If you are anything like me, sometimes you need something to look forward to, especially during our long Iowa winters. Enter Countdown+, the app that is similar to the paper chains that help you count down to summer break. Watch the days slowly melt away until your next vacation or shudder as they fly by as you prep for an upcoming deadline. No matter how you use it, the quick countdown nature provides you with a realistic slap to the face, that your normal calendar seems to camouflage,  on just how much or how little time you have until the next big task.
  1. GoodCo – Who doesn’t like to take quizzes? Weren’t they always one of your favorite parts of your magazine subscription? I know I’m not the only one who is guilty of wasting some time on Facebook figuring out which character I’m most like or some equally less useful information. Welcome GoodCo, the app with quizzes providing you information about yourself you could actually use. GoodCo was developed to help employees and employers find the right cultural fit. A pretty cool concept as cultural fit largely determines an employee’s happiness and longevity at a company. Download the app and start taking personality quizzes to see how you fit with companies’ profiles.
  1. Out of Milk – This app is a no brainer. Out of Milk serves as a virtual shopping list and to do list, but wait there’s more—it even notifies you of deals in your area and when you are passing those stores.
  1. Head’s Up – Instead of sitting around a table with a bunch of friends or family and everybody staring deeply into their own phone screen, try setting the phones aside (well, all but one) and busting out the app Head’s Up for some fun time interacting with the live people beside you. This game is brought to you by Ellen DeGeneres and is easy to learn and even more fun to play. Check it out!
